Adult Education
::
There are several adult education opportunities available at
9:15 (between the two services) on Sunday mornings. Two of the classes are
held across the street in the United Way building, the other in the church
Parish Hall. The classes end about 10:05 to allow for people to get to the
10:15 service in time.
The Gathering
Group The Gathering Group is dedicated primarily to supporting Saint David’s
newcomers, meets in the Parish Hall. This is a casual meeting with specific
discussion topics of interest to people new to our parish or the Episcopal
Church. Sample topics will include (but may not be limited to):
-
Prayer Book 101 - a discussion of how we conduct out liturgy, and how to
navigate around the Book of Common Prayer and the Hymnal that we use in our
services; differences between Rite I and Rite II; and other sacraments and
services of the church.
-
Christian Education – a discussion about our Sunday School classes;
Journey to Adulthood for teens; adult education; and special opportunities,
such as weekly Bible study.
-
Saint David’s Programs – a discussion of the various programs of ministry
(other than education) offered at Saint David’s, with opportunities for
questions and answers, and guidance about resources and joining specific
groups.
-
Rector’s Session – Approximately once each month Father Chuck will
facilitate the Gathering Group to discuss scriptural, spiritual and
theological issues of interest to newcomers, non-Episcopalians, or anyone
else with specific questions about our religion and teachings.
The Gathering
Group recycles itself, so anyone can join the group at any time. After
attending all the sessions, parishioners are encouraged to join another of
the adult classes.
Lectionary
Discussion
The Lectionary are the biblical passages read each week in the service. This
group discusses the passages being read that Sunday and offers an
opportunity to look at the reading in depth and share thoughts and ideas.
This class also meets at the United Way. Readings are passed out a week
ahead of time for those who would like to prepare for the class.
